Växjö declaration - Energie-Cités is launching a call to the European Commission
The Energie-Cités Board of Director met at Växjö (SE) the 17th of June and has adopted several resolutions all designed to offer a link between regulatory and technical issues and society’s expectations, to make EU policies more comprehensible to citizens, to the point of being wanted, and to motivate policy makers.
European mayors sign on a more active climate policy in Europe
On May 22, 2008 the Mayors of Delft (Netherlands), Grenoble (France), Växjö (Sweden) with the consent of the Mayors of Kaunas (Lithuania), Miskolc (Hungary) and Vastseliina (Estonia) signed the Grenoble Declaration and thus committed to achieve and even go beyond the European Union target.

Dexia and Energie-Cités establish a partnership to promote the Display® Campaign energy posting on public buildings in Europe
This partnership includes the deployment of the Display® tool in France, in Belgium and in Italy, Luxembourg and Slovakia in the year 2008.
The Covenant of Mayors launched
On 29th January during the European Sustainable Energy Week, Andris Piebalgs, Energy Commissioner has announced the Covenant of Mayors.
Almost 100 European cities, representing networks of CEMR, Climate Alliance, Eurocities and Energie-Cités, have expressed their interest in joining forces and commit themselves to achieve and even surpass the EU’s 20% CO2 reduction goal set by 2020.
MODEL awarded during the European Sustainable Energy Week
The special prize for the most promising project has been handed over by the EU Energy Commissioner, Mr. Andris Piebalgs, to the MODEL partners on the 29th January 2008.

Toward Class A - Award 2007
The "Towards Class A" Award recognizes the best communication activities carried out by European municipalities participating in the Display® Campaign.
This year 15 candidates were in the race, all fine examples of local authority communication activities all over Europe!
Cogeneration on the rise!
CCOGEN Challenge Achieves an Important Milestone – 500 Cogeneration Units from 19 European Countries Registered!
As the 500th cogeneration unit is registered in the on-line database, the COGEN Challenge project team claims that cogeneration in Europe is more reliable and widely applied than previously assumed. The use of small-scale cogeneration in homes, swimming pools and hotels is better accepted than people may think. Policy-makers should therefore be more confident in the promotion of cogeneration and include it as a central part of their energy planning...

Call for local authorities
During its General Meeting in Brasov (RO) on 26th April 2007, Energie-Cités has invited the local authorities to commit for reaching the energy and climate objectives of the European Union.
